pulut (glutinous rice) durian

Had this today. I haven’t eaten any pulut(glutinous rice) durian for the longest time, I believe. Of course I eat lots of durian when it is in season, and it would be in season in about a month or so. I am referring to durian from Penang, the ones that my husband had bought me week in and out during its season last year.

How do you eat that, some would ask. Well, just like any rice dishes. The glutinous rice here is cooked or steamed. To eat it, I would liberally drench it with coconut milk (freshly squeezed, not the canned or the UHT packed ones) and then eat it with the durian. My mom had only recently resorted to using coconut milk. I remember when we were younger, she used to serve us this dish with salted water and sugar instead of the milk. Both are equally tasty, from my point of view, but using coconut milk would make the dish richer.

Did Pumpkin eat this? Yes, but she don’t like to mix the rice with the durian. She would eat the rice mixed with the coconut milk, after she is done with it, she would eat the durian on its own. Oh yes. She might not be born over here, but serve her anything tasty, she would not turn her nose at that.

I did not eat as much as I thought I would heh. Maybe it was the glutinous rice. Somehow it was quite hard, though we did soak it for a few hours. Probably it needed an overnight soaking instead.

Anyway, it was delicious. I probably would like to eat this again, provided we could get some durian from Penang soon….
