The first smoked anything that I ever had was smoked salmon on rye. I had never heard of smoked kipper, like the one above. When moving to Kent in 2003, he first introduced me to this local delicacy, and I was hooked.
I am not sure whether I would be able to find this in the States, though. Maybe if I were to go to kosher stores, perhaps?
The thing would come in sealed bag, containing about 4 fillets, smoked with a dot of butter with it. All you got to do would be to poke a couple of holes, put it inside the microwave and zap it for two to three minutes.
Take it out, carefully cut open the plastic bag, mindful of the steam and slid the fillets onto the plate.
I usually serve this with chillies and sliced onion, splashed on some soy sauce and eat it with plain white rice.
Such a simple dish, and yet so very satisfying, at least to me. ![]()
